Want to Move Like a Minimalist? Here’s How You Can Purge before the Move
It’s a mystery really, the way minimalists are able to leave half of their belongings behind when relocating. On the other hand, most of us cannot even decide which pair of shoe to leave behind.
It’s one of the most difficult things to de-clutter and purges for a lighter load; even more so when you are a hoarder. However, it’s not impossible. If you do it the right way, you won’t ever feel the absence of the things you left behind.
Here’s how you can move to a new house like a minimalist:
As soon as you find out what the new house looks like, and how many rooms it has and how big it is, start planning.
Make a drawing of your new house; draw where the furniture would go, and where you would keep every single thing.
Once you have this drawing, you’ll get a very good idea regarding the storage space. And you’ll find out exactly how much you’ll have to get rid of.
As soon as your plans for relocation get confirmed, start using the items in the pantry more and more. Make sure you have as little as possible things to take with you from the pantry. These items are most susceptible to spilling and leaking and can be found anywhere.
Books and Magazines
Books and magazines have a way of piling up. Even the magazines and books you are least likely to read ever again. Start by de-cluttering them. This one is not as hard. You know exactly which book and magazine you keep close to heart and will read again and again and the ones you won’t ever touch again.
Donate these books to orphanages and places that can benefit from it.
Clearing out the closet is the most difficult. Just ask yourself if you have worn a certain dress over the last two months, if the answer is no, then get rid of it. The same goes for the shoes. Get rid of things that are out of fashion or those that you have worn to the point of being a rag.
Furniture is one of the biggest nuisances when you are trying to move in a minimalist style. If you want to buy new furniture in your new house, we suggest that you arrange a garage sale. Sell your furniture for money so that you can easily buy newer things for the new house. You can put various other household items for sale as well.
Do not bring any hazardous item along with you. They are not accepted for donations wither so you can either give it to someone who needs it, or you can just dispose of them. They might include propane tanks, paint, loaded guns, aerosols, poisons, kerosene, fireworks, fire extinguishers, gasoline etc.
In case you want to save yourself from the trouble and just take all of your stuff with you, call Cor Movers and they’ll handle the load. We’ll still advise you to leave the clutter behind for your own sake.
