How to Move Your Artwork  Moving Artwork:

Packing and moving paintings can be a stressful situation for both movers and art owners. By following a few simple moving tips, artwork can arrive at its destination, damage free.

Always Pad Artwork
Artwork should always be padded appropriately to ensure they make it to your final destination in perfect condition. If a painting has a glass frame on it, two pieces of tape in the shape of an X should be placed on the glass frame to prevent it from cracking or breaking during the move. Artwork should then be padded with bubble wrap. A drop cloth can then be wrapped around the painting to provide extra protection.

If the painting is small enough, it can be packed into an appropriately sized box and filled with packing peanuts or additional bubble wrap.

Never Stretch Wrap Paintings
You should never stretch wrap a painting without protective wrap or cloths. This is probably one of the best packing tips. Doing so could cause an oil painting to smear or melt and cause massive wear, tear and damage of the artwork. Before paintings can be stretch wrapped, they must be padded to ensure there is no damage to the artwork. Once the painting has been secured with drop cloths and padding, it can then be wrapped in stretch wrapping to ensure the padding do not slide or move around during shipping.

Preparing Sculptures for Moving
Sculptures should be wrapped in cloth to ensure the structural integrity of the statue is maintained during moving. After wrapping it in cloth, the sculpture can then be wrapped in bubble wrap. All sides of the bubble wrap should be taped down to prevent the bubble wrap from unraveling during shipping. After all appendages of the statue are safely secured, the statue can be placed in a cardboard box for shipping. The recessive space in the box can then be filled with packing peanuts and bubble wrap to ensure the statue doesn’t move during shipment.
